Yellow Blossom Sweet Clover is an excellent bee plant and a great cover crop. This yellow clover is a cool season biennial that is great for mining minerals like potassium and phosphorus from the lower levels of the soil and bringing them to the surface. Yellow blossom sweet clover has long thick taproots that are excellent for breaking up hard compacted soils. Sweet clovers are very fragrant.
Yellow Blossom Sweet Clover is a vigorous grower and can grow up to 6 feet tall given the right conditions. Quite a beautiful plant that can grow in a wide range of soils and climate conditions. Yellow Blossom Sweet Clover has demonstrated great drought tolerance, especially when planted early, just after your last frost.
Green manures are particular plants which are grown to improve the structure and/or the fertility of the soil. They break up heavy soils and improve drainage. They can help light soils hold more water. Different green manures have roots of differing depths. These can mine for different minerals in the soil, bring them to the surface and keep them there. Green manures of the Legume family increase Nitrogen in the soil which will benefit the following crop. Some, such as Alfalfa, root down very deep and bring up minerals to the top layer of the soil. The green tops, when dug in, add humus and nutrients.
